Meet Mike Pratt who owns a luxury 2 bed apartment situated in the well known harbour of Port-Vendres on the south coast of France. Although Mike bought with his head you can tell there’s a fair amount of heart mixed in…

“Here sea and mountains meet providing sumptuous natural surroundings, perfect for swimming, diving, walking, discovering or just chilling-out!”.

1) Tell us a little about your holiday apartment

I was holidaying in Port-Vendres in 2008. It’s on the south coast of France, and only 10 miles short of the Spanish border. It was a chance find on Google – it looked so nice when I found it, that I just had to pay a visit. Within 3 months I was back to sign the contract on a new two bedroom apartment.

2) What made you buy your holiday apartment – was it financial, emotional, a connection with the area, or something else?

Within a couple of days of my holiday in Port-Vendres I realised that this was the place to invest some capital that had come my way. The port and surrounding area ticked so many of my boxes that I knew I would struggle to find anywhere better. Airports, rail connections and roads make for a choice of ways to get there. Soon, Barcelona will be within easy reach for the day when the fast TGV train connection is finally complete with that of the town of Perpignan. In winter, the ski slopes are within striking distance too.

3) What’s the best thing about the region your holiday apartment is located in? Is it the scenery, the pace of life, the locals, the activities, etc?

Port-Vendres is on the Mediterranean Sea and close to the border of Spain and the small town is an essential stop on any tour of the Roussillon. Here sea and mountains meet providing sumptuous natural surroundings, perfect for swimming, diving, walking, discovering or just chilling-out! Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the renowned Scottish artist, designer and architect spent the last four years of his life here, but if you want bigger names, then a short walk away is the beautiful Collioure, where Picasso, Matisse and Derain have all left their mark!

4) What are the 3 special touches you add to enhance the guest experience?

1. My apartment is tastefully furnished to a high standard.

2. I have a dvd library with over 200 films to watch on a 32 inch flat screen TV. Perfect for those days when the weather defeats you!

3. I have hung on the walls some of my own painted scenes of Port-Vendres to bring a personal touch.

5) If a guest had just one day in your rental what would you recommend they do for the perfect experience?

There is no better way to enjoy Port-Vendres than just walking around the harbour to take in the sights and colours. Whether it be fishing boats, pleasure boats or just watching a large cargo boat being tugged into position, there is always something going on in this small town. Within a 30 minute walk you could find yourself in the beautiful resort of Collioure. Within this small town you’ll find beaches, many historic buildings and art galleries galore! If you’ve not been to this part of France, then you’ll be surprised at how nice and unspoilt this area is!
