Full Details

Watauga Lake is the first in the chain of Tennessee Valley Lakes which were created in the '30's to bring electricity to rural communities in the south.

80% of the shoreline is part of the Cherokee National Forest and will not be built on. The lake is 10 miles long and 110 miles of shoreline filled with trout, bass, walleye and catfish. Rumor says there is a 300 lb catfish near the bottom of the lake.

When Watauga Lake was built, it meant that the original town of Butler would be flooded. The Butler Museum tells the story of "the town that wouldn't drown."
