Full Details

The palace of Dijon is now the city hall with the mayor's office and other adminstrative offices. Before it was the throne of the powerful Dukes of Burgundy. The tower of Philippe le Bon allows an impressive view of the Dijon city. Originally the Palais des Ducs et des Etats was only a simple fortress built against the Gallo-Roman castrum until the 9th century. Rebuilt from 1366 by the first Duke of Valois, Philippe the Bold and extended by the successive dukes, the ducal dwelling place, built between 1450 and 1455 comprises several apartments, reception rooms and outhouses including the imposing ducal kitchens.
