TURTLE POINT COTTAGE ON BEAVER LAKE RECOMMENDS:
Founded at the turn of the century, the Napanee Golf and Country Club is a fully mature course set on a hilly terrain highlighted by towering stands of pine, maple, oak and chesnut trees. The course is known in the area for its friendly, cordial atmosphere and its well maintained greens, which tend to putt fast but true.
Although it's classified as a nine hole course, dual tees (and even a dual fairway for the 5th and 14th holes), allow Napanee to be played as a full 18 with little chance to experience déjà vu. Throughout you'll play on contoured, irrigated fairways with well cleared roughs. The landing areas are, for the most part, generous and the most important thing to avoid on the course is getting behind one of the many large trees.
Probably the most picturesque and challenging hole at Napanee is the 2nd. Somewhat long for a par three at 200 yards, golfers are assisted by the fact that they will be playing from an elevated escarpment over a shallow valley. The hole's small two tiered green is always a challenge, and breaks sharply right to left on the back tier.
After your round enjoy a refreshment at Napanee's "new" clubhouse, constructed in the 1920's on land that was once a race track. The grassy banked corners of the track are still visible between the clubhouse's veranda and the 9th hole's green.
