A couples only, spacious ground floor vacation rental in a beautifully restored old stone long house in Central Brittany. Wonderful views and a tranquil location, an ideal touring base or just chill out and enjoy the peace!
La Fontaine Rouillée, near Plessala is a lovely spot for a holiday in a friendly, rural area that makes it just so easy to relax and forget the pressures of everyday life. It is the location of our ancient longere which has been renovated to provide well equipped, comfortable holiday accommodation.
A traditional Breton arched doorway which opens into a spacious double height hall with a small galleried landing, featuring original exposed oak beams.
Open plan kitchen with a sunny window seat. The kitchen is comprehensively equipped for self-catering throughout the year - from salad spinner to chicken roaster. An under-stair laundry area houses the washing machine, iron and ironing board.
Living room which has a large window set into the front wall and the other end of the room has French doors leading directly out onto the barbecue terrace and a wonderful view over the river valley.
The dining table seats six comfortably. There is also a TV with UK free-to-air channels, DVD player, well-stocked bookcase, board games, comfy sofas and coffee table. The efficient wood burner provides a focal point and is ideal for warming plates or mulling wine on a winter evening.
At the rear of the longere there is an attractive ground floor double bedroom with more French doors out to the rear terrace, and an adjacent shower room.
On the rear terrace is a built-in barbecue with large hardwood table, chairs and parasol creating an outdoor dining space. Beyond the redcurrant bushes, edging the terrace, is our open grassed paddock bordered by oak, apple and hazel trees. Sit and watch the amazing variety of birds and butterflies that share this beautiful peaceful area, or star gaze on clear evenings.
Stroll beside the nearby River Lié, dangle a rod into it or take a kayak down it. Le Site de la Roche au Cerf is a medieval stepping stone river crossing in the valley directly below La Fontaine Rouillée, where the shallow waters are ideal for cooling off in hot weather and lovely to sit beside with a picnic.
Le Vaublanc - 2km - is the site of an old forge, now occupied by a religious community who bake up to ten varieties of delicious bread the traditional way and are pleased to show their wood fuelled ovens to passers-by stopping for a chat and to buy a loaf. The former railway line can be accessed nearby and forms part of a network of good local cycle/foot paths.
Plessala - 3km - has a small supermarket, bank, post office, bakers, butchers, bar, tabac, an excellent crêperie and a market on Thursday mornings. The mayor’s office issues fishing permits for the trout lake in the park.
Just a short drive away are several other small towns with a range of good restaurants for both lunch and dinner, as well as assorted other attractions. This beautiful and tranquil part of Brittany offers many options for sightseeing, sport, touring or relaxing and is easily accessible from Brittany's air and sea ports.
